Joan S. Fishler, 85, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Lutheran Care Center. A lifelong resident, Joan was born in Poughkeepsie on May 3, 1932 to George and Margaret Schaefer Owen. She attended Poughkeepsie High School and the Hudson River Psychiatric Center School of Nursing. She married Dr. J. Stuart Fishler who survives her at home. Joan worked as an R.N. for a private practice in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was a member of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club, Dutchess Golf and Country Club and was a volunteer at the Children's Home . Joan was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed singing, golf and tennis and was the hit of parties and enjoyed entertaining. Joan is survived by her husband and her sons; George O. and Lisa Fishler of Poughkeepsie, James Stuart Fishler and Claudia Fishler of Pacific Palisades, CA, Franklin Fishler of Hawaii, Douglas Fishler of Los Angeles, CA, as well as her daughter Priscilla and Michael Fishler-Sperling of Nyack, NY. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Claire, Peter, Katie, Charlotte, Matthew, James, Justin, Brian and Tia, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her sister Ruth Hritz. There are no calling hours. If desired, donations may be made to the Children's Home 185 Fulton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
