Gertrude S. Sokol passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the age of 70. Born on May 27, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Stephania (Klodziej) Sokol. Gertrude was employed for many years at Eden Park Nursing Home in Poughkeepsie, NY as a Patient Care Technician, retiring in 2012. She will be remembered fondly by her family for her love of cats and playing the lottery, especially scratch off cards. Gertrude is survived by her brothers Edward L. Sokol and Louie Sokol, both from Salt Point NY and her niece Tricia Powers and her husband Stephen of Pleasant Valley, NY.; she is predeceased by her sister Agnes Ross (1999) and her sister-in-law, Yolanda Sokol (2013). Also surviving is her companion of more than 30 years, Fran Morano of Poughkeepsie, NY. There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be offered on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:00AM at St. Joseph Cemetery, 42 Evergreen Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Gertrude's name to the Dutchess County ASPCA, 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538. Arrangements are under the direction of Wm. G.
