I met Bob about 40 years ago at the Dutchess Philatelic Society. One evening Bob brought chocolate cake to a meeting. It was the world's best chocolate cake so I asked Bob for the recipe but he told me that he was very sorry that it he didn't have permission to give it to anyone else. I was very surprised when, many years later, he handed me a recipe card and told me that he had permission to share the cake recipe. How did he even remember that I had asked for it after so much time had passed? And it was so thoughtful of him to give it to me. I've baked that cake many times and treasure the recipe.

I was a student at HHS when I met Mr. Schwerdt. I took several of his classes..... he was one of the best teachers there. I loved coming to class....especially Dramatics. That class enabled us all to see a very different side of him. We learned and we laughed......and enjoyed every minute of it. Several years ago I was fortunate to have lunch with him. We met at the restaurant, and when I entered, he was there waiting, with his HHS name tag and picture on a chain around his neck. He said he wore it just in case I did not recognize him! You will be missed Mr.Schwerdt......thanks for the memories. My sincere sympathy to his family.......

Uncle Bob was the sweetest man. I loved how he would “steal my nose”. I fell for it every time and I loved it! He always has clever riddles and games that entertained us. Nobody can wear argyle socks as well as him. So many fond memories. Just the thought of him makes people smile.

Many years ago Mr.Schwerdt was my high school English teacher, and he was the teacher who made the most impression upon me. I remember his help in editing the 1953 yearbook, and the "Echo" was dedicated to him that year. He will never be forgotten by me. My sincere condolences to his family at this sad time.

Condolences to family. I was a student of Mr. Schwerdt at HHS in the 60's. I wish I had paid more attention in his class. However he did instill in me a burning desire to succeed and prove him wrong when he told me one day "you will never amount to anything". For that comment I am thankful. Rest in peace. Jim Baker

My sincere condolences for your loss! Mr. Schwerdt was the English teacher of my aunts, my brothers and I (Class of '85). He celebrated great times with us and supported us during times of loss. His sincerity and kindness made such a positive mark on this world. I will always be grateful for his willingness to challenge me to be and do my best.
