On Wednesday, February 10th, 2021, John P. McDermott, lifelong resident
of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed in peace at the age of 78 at Vassar Brothers Medical
Center.
John was born on August 9th, 1942 in the Bronx, NY, to Thomas and
Kathleen (Walsh) McDermott. Mr. McDermott served in the U.S Airforce from
1961-1965.
John was preceded in death by his father, Thomas and his mother,
Kathleen. John is survived by the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Sheila
(Kelley) McDermott, his 5 younger siblings, Thomas F. McDermott, Kathleen M.
Corbett, Nancy V. Rigothi, Mary P. Germano, Donna M. Edwards, his children,
Michael, Kathleen, Maureen, Colleen, John, Michelle, his 10 grandchildren, and 2
great-grandchildren who all loved him dearly.
Mr. McDermott will be deeply missed by all.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 18th, from 5-7 p.m at
Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A mass
will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church the following morning at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations can be made
