Obituary for John Klump
John D. Klump, age 59, passed away peacefully at the Montefiore Nyack Hospital on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, after a courageous battle with lymphoma. John was born in Poughkeepsie NY on September 6, 1961, to Henry P. and Shirley M. Klump (Freer).
John is survived by one brother, William Klump (Norma) of Raleigh NC; and three sisters, Carol Hankamp of Pleasant Valley NY, Susan Royce of Poughkeepsie NY, and Linda Sgaramella (Joseph) of Pleasant Valley NY. Also surviving are eight nieces and nephews, Dani Steinberg, Denise Lanzillotti, Heather Barcomb, Lisa Speidell, Cindy Asaro, Gina Romano, Steven Sgaramella and Robert Sgaramella; and many great nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law Peter Hankamp and his nephew Joseph Hankamp.
John was a kind, fun person. He loved his family and had a great sense of humor. He especially enjoyed joking with his nieces and nephews and making them laugh when they were young children. Because of his 6’4” frame, his friends nicknamed him “Too Tall”, and later his niece, called him “UJ”, and this family name stuck with him for the rest of his life.
John was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed playing basketball and participating in softball leagues. He enjoyed listening to all music, especially rock music. At a young age, he began writing his own lyrics and playing the guitar. He attended Arlington High School and worked for the US Postal Service in Newburgh NY.
