Joseph E. Hunter, 88, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on February 3, 2021 at home. He was born in Newark, N.J. on May 23, 1932 the son of Carey Thomas & Sarah Flynn Hunter. Joe married Margaret Dolan on July 7, 1962 in Kingston, NY. She predeceased him on March 10, 2019.
Joe was employed by IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY as a Programmer. He was Veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1956-1958. He was one of the founding families of St. Martin de Porres Church. He volunteered at the Church and St. Martin's Grade School acting as the locksmith. Joe enjoyed photography, carpentry, mystery books, crime dramas and was an avid computer and technology aficionado. The family would like to thank Dr. Steve Jacobs , his staff and the aides who took care of our father prior to his passing.
Survivors include his sons: Francis and his wife Joyce Hunter & Tom Hunter both of Poughkeepsie, NY; Joseph Hunter & significant other Anelia of Manhattan, NY; daughters: Maureen Hunter of Poughkeepsie, NY and Kathleen(Alan) Luck of No. Olmstead, Ohio. Grandchildren include: Megan, Finny, Kelly; step-grandchildren: Johnny, Justin, Jennifer and Julianne. There are several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son: Michael Hunter and a sister: Ruthanne Nadler.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 8, 2021 at 9:45AM at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial will follow in the family plot in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
