WAS SO SAD THAT AFTER 47 YEARS OF LOOKING FOR YOU, YOUR OBITUARY WAS HOW I FOUND YOU. I AM PLEASED TO SEE THAT YOU HAD A GREAT LIFE AFTER VIETNAM AS YOU SO DESERVED IT. WE WERE YOUNG AND INVINCIBLE AND WE WERE SOLDIERS. I WILL SEE YOU AGAIN MY BROTHER.

I send my deepest heartfelt sympathy to your family, especially for Joelle and Rosie, two beautiful girls who were dearly loved by their father! My fondest memories of Joe are with his daughters at Camp Medusa! Joe will forever be remembered by his family, friends, and fellow veterans. Families, particularly siblings, have a unique co-history, experiences, memories, and connections to the past, your parents, the house you live in, playing in the neighborhood, your pets, family vacations or activities, sibling rivalry, and the nuances of your upbringing, these are things that only your family can experience, you know each other as you always were because your stories began together and are intertwined forever. This is a special bond called love. We have learned in life that when “things happen” all you really have is your family to rely on, and I truly feel the strong family presence in the words written in these posts! Unfortunately your family is now grieving over the passing of your beloved father and sibling, Joe, a heartbreaking feat that Joelle, Rosie, and Angela, Dolores, Anthony, Angelo, Dee, and John will grapple with in the months to come, however reading the memories posted here and celebrating the life of this kind, giving, and patriotic man, lets us know that the life you loved goes on forever. Uncle Joe- I truly have a life time of memories from our time together, all of which will be treasured always. Thank you for being such an important part of my life. There are so many wonderful things things that can be said about Joe. And the most wonderful things that I can say is, Joelle and Rosie. I was incredibly blessed to have shared my life with this man. He gave me two incredibly beautiful daughters and an amazing journey of friendship. I came from a background that taught me how to push people away and keep them away. Joe wasn't having any of that and made sure that he stayed in my life. I will always be thankful and greatful for that. He became my best friend and I will miss everything about him. For now, I'm going to be happy when I think of him. Because he has filled my life with so much joy and wonderful memories, that I'll be able to smile, or laugh, or shed a tear, because he gave me so much in my life that I will always be greatful for. And when I look at Joelle and Rosie, he'll be shining through them. and I'll be able to see him every day. I love you Joe, thank you for being in my life and showing me what genuine love is. And thank you for our babies. I'm so happy I was able to give them to you. They love you so much. It's never easy to say goodbye, so this is just a see you later and take care until we're together again.

Please forgive the grammer and punctuation as I'm just letting my thoughts pour out.... Thank you to my brothers and sisters who have written beautiful passages about our brother Joseph Michetti. Their words are my words. Their pain is my pain. Their funny stories are my expierences as well. We all have Joe woven thru our souls. He's deep within our hearts, giving us the strength to move forward and live fully as he did. My heart pours out to his two beautiful daughters whom he called every day to say goodnight. I can still hear him say: "Hi Rose-bud, Hi Joelle - how are you? How was your day? What are you doing?" How many fathers take the time to ask those important questions? For a man with a weak heart he sure was able to fit a universe of love into it. He's in our laughter, our sadness, our silliness. Joe lived to be with family and just love. The 6 months Joe lived with me he told me hundreds of times a day how much he appreciated me and loved me; it never felt patronizing or old. Each time he said it was like Christmas morning. He bought me little gifts and flowers to show how much he appreciated me taking care of him and it would always brighten my day. Love poured from him like the healing waters of Fatima. Flowing, flowing, flowing...washing all over me, restoring me, healing me with renewed strength. The curative gift Joe gave to me in those 6 months was simply love and a chance to enjoy my parents again. Sometimes I would just stare at him because I could see June or Angelo in that moment. It filled in that 39 year old hole in my soul. I never realized how much like my mother and father Joe was. Granted -Joe was Joe - uniquely (so uniquely!). However still he embodied my mothers spirit: a gentle quiet loving kindness with an inverted manner at times. He embodied my fathers spirit: wise, commical, unconditional. I hold dear this moment in time when Joe and I time traveled back into familial bliss. There is no more pain now Joe; God has taken you home. Enjoy heaven, you earned it.

Joe, I have no doubt that you have taken a big piece of every ones heart with you. You left behind so many wonderful stories and memories. I'm sure they will be talked about, laughed about, and cried about for many many years. There isn't one person who doesn't have a memory or a story about you. You touched every ones life in some way, from the mentoring, the support, the laughter, the joking, Uncle Slowey, elevator up, Ot 12, pert near, every things just gooey, Fish On, fish off, you will be so missed. I'm glad I have my own story, just you and I freezing our butts off, so many years ago just to do a fishing tournament. We had to be the first one in the water, that meant sleeping in the car! Well, we did it, we didn't win, but we had a lot of laughs and a lot of fun! I will cherish your memories forever. As Rob said, Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean, I'll miss you, until we meet again.

no words can express the the overwhelming sadness i feel, i miss you,i love you and have a huge void in my heart. I feel so blessed to have had our times together, riding around,going to appointments and of course joking with all the doctor's and nurses,i know they all grew so fond of you. Joey i will never forget our hunting trip up the mountain when a deer came right in front of us, i waiting with my heart pounding for a big bang, but nothing and that deer just walked away. when i turned to you you simply shrugged ,i get it joey,you wanted me to experience what you so loved it was the beauty of it,the surroundings,the falling snow, the beauty of our time together which was unforgettable, thanks joey for that picture you made me pose for holding your rifle up on that mountain that day.rest in peace big brother, i love you,Dolo

I cannot express the sadness I feel right now. I have so many things I want to say. My brother Joe was the most dedicated, loyal and honest family man anyone could ever ask for. When our father passed in 1978, Joe never hesitated and stepped in to become my role model almost immediately. I learned many things from him such as hunting, fishing, driving, integrity, honesty and loving with all my heart. Although he left us too early, he left an indelible mark and I cannot ever adequately express what he meant to me. Joe was my brother, my surrogate father, my role model and above all, my friend. In the last year, Joe made sure all those he cared about knew how much he loved them. I must have said "I love you too bro" a thousand times in that year, but it still wasn't enough. I am so sad, but I know he would not want to be the source of my sadness and would tell me to press on and keep moving forward. I will do that, but a piece of me will be forever missing. I love you bro, Rest In Peace.
