Obituary for Elaine P. Newman

Elaine Patricia Newman, “Pat”, 91, passed away on January 12, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Pat was born in Rochester, N.Y. on February 9,1929 to the late Bessie (Turk) and Walter L. Mock. She was the youngest of three children; Walter L. Mock Jr., who predeceased her, and Herbert F. Mock, who survives in Rochester, N.Y. Pat graduated from Monroe High School, and received an Associate Degree from a local business school in Rochester N.Y. She married B. Jay Newman on May 3, 1953 at the Hotel Seneca in Rochester, N.Y. He predeceased her on November 6, 1983. Together they had four children: Peter (Debra) of Bayside,W.I., Wendy (predeceased in February, 2000), Mark (Stephanie) of Leland, N.C. and Debbie (Mike) Pierantozzi, of LaGrangeville, N.Y. After relocating to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. in 1964, her major focus was raising her young family, while making time for herself and her many close friends golfing, bowling, playing bridge (only a few points away from a Grand Master), and playing mahjong. She was a long-time member of Vassar Temple since 1964. She worked as a bookkeeper/receptionist for D.J. Keller & Sons, Inc. for 19 years and loved her job. Pat loved chocolate, music (Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett), movies, traveling, and has passed that love onto her children. She was widowed at age 54, but remained in her home until the age of 80, after which she spent seven years at the Manor at Woodside, and nearly another four at the Lutheran Care Center at Concord Village. She is survived by three of her four children and their spouses, former daughter-in-law, Karin Schwartz, five grandchildren, Laura (Rich), Lisa (Dino) and David Newman, and Janine Pierantozzi and Rachel Hontz (Joshua), two step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren Ethan Jay Rhee and Isaac Philip Rhee, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Pat had a wonderful, fulfilling, active, and long life, and will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Lutheran Care Center, 1 North, Vassar Brothers Medical Center and the heartfelt gratitude to Hudson Valley Hospice, who have been by her side since last March, 2020.
